Canadians Want TVs to Be “Media Hubs” A recent survey conducted by Ipsos Reid and sponsored by HP Canada discovered that Canadians want more than just bigger, wider, and flatter out of a TV: many want the TV to become a “media hub” for the living room. Of those surveyed, 60 per cent said they want to be able to access, manage, and enjoy digital photos, music, TV, videos, and movies using the TV. Independent Evaluation Tests Confirm Outstanding Performance Of Plasma Television
Consumer desire for large flat panel high definition television will fuel strong sales of plasma television in 2006, according to Jim Palumbo, President of the Plasma Display Coalition. During a presentation at the SID conference here, Palumbo said sales of plasma TVs should reach the three million mark this year, dominating the large screen television category. In fact, according to DisplaySearch, plasma holds 65 percent share of the 40 to 44-inch TV segment and worldwide plasma TV shipments increased 87 percent year to year.
Five plasma displays, one from each of the coalition members, were put through an extensive series of tests conducted in the laboratories of Roam Consulting. Palumbo released the test results at the conference that underscored plasma is the ideal large-screen high definition display for today's home theater.
"These results confirm that plasma televisions deliver an outstanding technical performance," Palumbo said.More
Billy Preston: 1946–2006
June 11, 2006 — Billy Preston, the keyboard player, singer, and songwriter frequently credited as "the fifth Beatle," died June 6 in Scottsdale, AZ from respiratory complications from improperly treated pericarditas he experienced in an LA hospital visit on November 21, 2005. Preston, born September 2, 1946 in Houston, TX, was mentored by Ray Charles. He was a regular performer on the mid-1960s ABC TV show Shindig! and toured Europe with Little Richard. In Hamburg, the soon-to-be-famous Beatles opened for Little Richard, then at the height of his popularity. It was there that the teenage Preston and the lads from Liverpool first met. Preston played organ and electric piano on Let It Be and Abbey Road and, in fact, the single "Get Back" was credited to "The Beatles and Billy Preston"—the only time the Beatles ever shared billing on a record release with another musician.
